	IDA is an organisation in which a number of well-known companies are working to develop a common standard for distributed intelligence in industrial automation, based on Ethernet TCP/IP and Web technologies, which contains all communication services and all interfaces to devices and to software. The aim is to achieve real-time interoperability between devices produced by different manufacturers, without extra programming for the process of communication. This also applies to safe communication. The organisation is not dominated by any individual manufacturer; it may be considered neutral in that respect.
